AP reports that J.G. Ballard passed away yesterday after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was 78 years old. Obviously, this is news is profoundly sad, but the literary world has been lucky to have him for so long. Ballard was a prolific author, churning out nearly two dozen novels and many more short stories over his 50-year career. His autobiography, Miracles of Life, was published in 2008, shortly after his cancer diagnosis in 2006. His death doesn’t come as a surprise, but serves as a reminder to revisit his work and bask in the beautiful, stark dystopias he created for us.
