Gosh, I love this. Ridley, a three-year-old Cairn terrier, has been trained by his owner (who happens to be the Director for the National Seashore’s Sea Turtle Science and Recovery Division) to find nests of Kemp’s ridley sea turtles along Padre Island National Seashore. Kemp’s ridley turtles are the smallest species of sea turtles, and are critically endangered. All species of sea turtles are listed as threatened or endangered, and their situation is only getting worse, as we build more and more human development near the sandy beaches where they lay their eggs.
